Upper gastrointestinal bleeding is most commonly caused by lesions in the oesophagus, stomach or duodenum. In a minority of cases the bleeding originates from the pancreatic duct, and is known as haemosuccus pancreaticus. In many cases it is associated with chronic pancreatitis.
